Mrs. Florence M. Hasslen, 84, of Annandale, died Monday, July 16, 2001 at the St. Cloud Hospital.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 19 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Annandale with the Rev. Scott Jakel officiating. Burial followed at Highland Cemetery, Middleville Township, Wright County. She is survived by her husband, John of Annandale, sons, daughters and their spouses, John and Patricia of Elk River, Susan and Thomas Masso of New Brighton, Jean Levey of Ottawa, Canada, Joel and Robin of South Haven, Jeff and Joan of Elk River, and Sara of St. Paul, 11 grandchildren, Cindy (David) Smilden, Joseph (Jill) Hasslen, Timothy (Kristi) Hasslen, Mandy Hasslen-Gartner (David Gartner), Melissa Hasslen, Timothy (Cindy) Masso, Jenifer (Alonzo) Camel, Jeremy (Kristy) Masso, Jessica Hasslen, Tommy Hasslen, Eric Hasslen, 12 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Nathan, Lacey and Davis Smilden, Heather, Stephanie and Chelsea Hasslen, Allison and Nicholas Hasslen, Eoghan Hasslen-Gartner, Ryan and Olivia Masso.
Her parents, infant daughter, Kristi Marie, two brothers and three sisters preceded her in death.
Florence Margaret Hasslen was born on November 3, 1916 in Highland, Wright County to the late John and Olga (Anderson) Cochran. She graduated from Annandale High School in 1932, and then attended St. Cloud Teachers College. She taught country school in Wright County for three years. She married John S. Hasslen on October 12, 1940 in Lake Minnetonka. She lived in St. Paul from 1940 until moving to Clearwater Lake, Annandale in 1973. She was a homemaker and member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Annandale. She loved her family and church, enjoyed Clearwater Lake, swimming and speed boating, and she enjoyed volunteering at Pioneer Park and in the Annandale schools.
