Wright County Sheriff’s Office
At 8:18 p.m. on Monday, June 1, deputies from the Wright County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to Pleasant Lake in Corinna Township for a possible drowning in the lake. The drowning victim has been identified as Cameron Mertens, 18, from Watkins.
Deputies discovered an overturned kayak near the public access and dock on the north side of the lake where several people were fishing at the time of the incident. Witness statements and evidence gathered from the scene by deputies showed Mertens was fishing from a kayak near the dock at the public access about 75-100 yards from the dock. Witnesses stated Mertens fell from the kayak while fishing. The male was located by Wright County Sheriff’s Office dive team members.
