Security hiked at DC after threat

Dassel-Cokato High School was under heightened security on Tuesday, April 19, after a threat was found written on a storage room wall. The message read, "People will die on 4/19/16," and was accompanied by other graffiti and the phrase "People are sick," according to the Dassel-Cokato Enterprise Dispatch.

While authorities did not consider the threat credible, two extra law enforcement officers were present at the school on Tuesday, April 19, and all students had their belongings checked. More than 400 middle school and high school students were absent from school on that day, but Superintendent Jeff Powers said there was otherwise little impact on the school day.

The case is under investigation. The Wright County Sheriff’s Office said it was not necessary to close the school because the threat was not deemed credible and shutting the school down could have gratified the perpetrator’s desire to get a reaction.
