Colin Leroy Gunnerson, 77, of Remer died Sunday, Sept. 13, 2009, at Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Sept. 16 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Remer with Rev. C.E. Bob Alley officiating. Burial will be at Redeemer Lutheran Cemetery, Kingston, at a later date. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Iva; daughter Gayle Gunnerson of Sauk Rapids; sons Mark (Michelle) Gunnerson of Duluth, Chad Gunnerson of Remer, Lane (Robyn) Gunnerson of Cohasset; sisters Joyce Ekegren of Bloomington, Elaine Hugill of St. Anthony, Ardella (Dave) Rued of Aitkin, Carol (Arvid) Anderson of Bloomington, Annette (Ivan) Russell of Cambridge; grandchildren Megan and Ella Gunnerson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald and Douglas Gunnerson; and sister Judy Grev. Colin was born in 1932 to Ray and Ellen Gunnerson near Annandale. He graduated from Annandale High School in 1950. He held degrees in math, biology, and physical education from St. Cloud State University and a masters degree in mathematics education from Bemidji State University. Colin taught mathematics for 36 years at Northland-Remer High School retiring in 1996. After attending Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis, he took a job with Caselius Construction in Annandale for several years. Colin was united in marriage to Iva Mae Laitinen on Aug. 20, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Annandale, and they raised four children. Colin was a loving husband, dedicated father and in recent years, a grandfather. He was known for his boundless energy, enthusiasm, ambition, deep Christian faith and dedication as a family man. His other interests and hobbies included being an avid hunter, fisherman and music.
