Morris Alexander Finstad, 92, died in his sleep on July 16, 2004, after a recent heart attack and resulting complications. Service will be graveside, with family attending. He will be laid to rest with his two sons (John and David) and his granddaughter (Jennifer) and his wife, Fran, in Annandale. Survived by his children Don, Lori, Gayle and his grandchildren Kimberly, Jeromy and Jesse. His sister, Anna Carmazon, is the last remaining sibling of four children. He was born on Aug. 29, 1911, in Minneapolis to a Norwegian couple Johannes Johanneson Finstad and Gurine J. Botten Finstad. Morey, as he preferred to be called, was a cement finisher and later a machinist. He was an honest, hard worker who took pride in his work. There was nothing he could not do well. Morey met Frances Sofia Arnell, of Swedish descent, and they were married in 1941. They were married for 62 years, when he lost her to a stroke last summer. Together they raised six children. Described as “such a nice guy,” quick to smile, never complaining, doing what needed to be done, he kept busy and loved to play cards or cribbage. Morey lived in Annandale and the surrounding area for many decades and in the assisted living apartments for the last two years. He scootered around the building to meals and to “the club,” and was still winning at cards with family until his death.
