She grew up in the South Haven area, graduating from Annandale High School in 1956. The oldest girl of nine children, she helped the family by taking care of her brothers and sisters as well as working at the cafe during high school. Growing up, swimming across Lake Sylvia, playing cards for bobby pins, and going to dances were some of her favorite pastimes. On April 13, 1957, Carol was united in marriage to Melvin A. Lundeen in South Haven. They were blessed with three children. Together, they owned and operated Lundeen Hardware Store for 28 years. Carol ran the store; including ordering merchandise, driving to Minneapolis for parts, keeping the books, and preparing their taxes. After retiring in 1994 from the hardware store, Carol continued to work part-time as a waitress at Mom’s Cafe until the age of 74. She was a member of the South Haven Fire Department Auxiliary and was a 4-H leader for many years. Carol was a life-long member of Zion United Methodist Church, where she was baptized, confirmed, married, and where she raised her children in their faith. She served as a Sunday school teacher, treasurer of the cemetery fund, financial secretary and member of the administrative board. She also cooked for the youth Easter sunrise services, church dinners, and United Methodist Women events.
