Marilyn Lundeen Aronson, 89, beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully Thursday, August 18, 2022, having spent her final days surrounded by loved ones at Wake Med Hospital in Cary, North Carolina. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, Arthur Aronson, her parents, Luella and Ted Lundeen, and her brother Donovan Lundeen. She is survived by her three children: daughter Brenda Panno and her husband Larry of Marietta, Georgia; son Mark Aronson and his wife Marianne of Midlothian, Virginia; and daughter Luann Aronson Fox and her husband Steve of Los Angeles, California. Marilyn was born in Cokato, Minnesota, and grew up in nearby Annandale, Minnesota. She graduated from Annandale High School (a classmate of her future husband, Arthur) in 1951. Upon completion of her training at the Swedish Hospital Nursing School in Chicago, Marilyn became a Registered Nurse and began her career working in hospitals and later in several medical practices in Ithaca, New York, and as a private duty nurse in Raleigh, North Carolina She married Arthur Aronson in 1956 and enjoyed living in Minneapolis, as Arthur pursued his DVM and Ph.D. degrees at the University of Minnesota, and then in Ithaca, New York, where he earned a master’s degree from Cornell University before accepting a professorship there. Marilyn was devoted to raising her three children Brenda, Mark, and Luann along with caring for a host of family pets. She was a woman of faith who contributed to her spiritual family at Oak Avenue Lutheran Church in many ways: serving on numerous church committees, volunteering for Meals on Wheels and (most dear to her), making beautiful music as a member of the church’s choir. 1980 brought a move to Raleigh, North Carolina, so Arthur could join North Carolina State University and help set up the NC State Veterinary School as one of its department heads. Marilyn was active in her support of Arthur’s work and the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, joining their church family and becoming active in singing in the choir and serving on various committees. Marilyn cherished many friendships through volunteer activities, her church family, playing league tennis at the NC State Faculty Club, and celebrating her Swedish and Norwegian heritage with the Friends of Scandinavia. Both she and Arthur enjoyed their association with this group for many years, Arthur serving as president 2007-2008. Marilyn had a strong commitment to her faith and a boundless heart. She touched many people’s lives with her acts of thoughtfulness and caring, such as delivering roses from her garden, or baking banana bread and Texas sheet cakes. She was an inspiration who cared for people in many ways. Marilyn had a deep love for her family, traveling frequently to see them and attend their graduations, sporting events, and performances all around the country. She was especially fond of her grandchildren: Ariana Miller and Garrett Panno, Matthew Aronson and Julia Mayo, and Noah and Luke Fox. Marilyn was blessed to be able to attend the weddings of Ariana to Ryan, Matthew to Michelle, and Julia to Chet. Recently, she welcomed three great-grandchildren: Kyla Miller, Sawyer Aronson, and Summerlynn Mayo to her circle of love. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1, at 2 p.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2723 Clark Avenue in Raleigh, North Carolina. Information for the livestream of the service can be found on Holy Trinity’s website: www.htelc.org. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to contribute in memory of Marilyn to Dementia Alliance NC at dementianc.org. Online condolences may be shared at www.cremnc.com.
