Thomas Keith Mitzel passed away Thursday, Sept. 29, 2022, in his home under the care of hospice and family. Tom was born Sept. 28, 1957, at Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis and was adopted by Albert and Helen (Scholtes) Mitzel in 1959. He grew up in South Minneapolis where he attended Holy Rosary Elementary School. He graduated from DeLaSalle High School in 1975 and later received a degree from Minnesota School of Business. He was a lifelong lover of music, playing on tour around the upper Midwest for nearly 20 years. In 1995 Tom met the love of his life and best friend, Sarah Seeley. They were married Nov 5, 2005. After nine years as an over-the-road trucker, Tom proudly purchased his own rig and drove all 48 states until May 2022. To his great joy, Tom came back to full Communion with the Catholic Church in 2020. Tom loved concerts at First Avenue, being out in nature and camping with friends, athletic training and marathons, kayaking, baseball and hockey, travel and food experiences, learning new things, being creative with music and writing, and solving world problems over a beer. Tom is survived by Sarah Seeley, Ron and Mary Mitzel, Dennis Mitzel and Rose DeSanto, Rob Knickerbocker, and a large and loving family. He is preceded in death by his dearly loved grandmother Olive Scholtes, adoptive parents Al and Helen Mitzel, and dear sister Pat Knickerbocker. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at the Church of St. Timothy, Maple Lake, with Fr. John Meyer as Celebrant, burial to immediately follow. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service.
