Shirley L. Heberling

Shirley L. Heberling, age 96, of Buffalo, died Sunday, Feb. 19, 2023, at The Glenn Memory Care Cottages in Buffalo, Minnesota. Funeral services will be held 12 noon Tuesday, Feb. 28, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale, with Pastor Todd Nelsen officiating. Public visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 12 noon prior to service. Burial will follow at Pleasantview Cemetery in Annandale. Funeral services will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. Shirley Lorraine Starry was born at home on Dec. 17, 1926, in Buffalo, Minnesota, to Edward and Ruth (Bailey) Starry. Shirley was baptized into faith on Jan. 9, 1927, and was confirmed on April 6, 1941, at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ. She grew up in Maple Lake where she graduated high school with the class of 1945. Shortly after Shirley was united into marriage to Elwood James Heberling on Aug. 22, 1946, at the Bethlehem United Church of Christ. Together they raised their family in Maple Lake. Shirley was a devoted homemaker for her family. She also worked at Maple Lake Public Schools as a cafeteria cook for nine years. She was known for her love of nature where she would spend time with Elwood hunting, fishing, gardening, or simply admiring nature’s beauty. Shirley always made her family and friends feel welcomed and special. She looked forward to their visits and often times could be found preparing special meals including meatloaf and lemon pie for them. She also enjoyed bird watching, playing cards, reading, puzzles, and knitting. Shirley’s unconditional love for her family will be missed the most. Shirley is survived by her sons, Jim (Carol) Heberling of Vero Beach, Florida, and Rick (Sharon) Heberling of Maple Lake, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Corrie (Mike Lambrecht) Collins, Heather (Jami) Becker, Steven Heberling, Nicole (Truman) Boone, Jason (Diana Hermosillo) Heberling, Kate (Travis Wilkes) Heberling, Ann (Erik) Lemke; five great-grandchildren, Conner, Brantley, Chloe, Olivia, Gracyn; sister, Carol Thompson of Princeton, Minnesota; sister-in-law, Stella Heberling of Annandale; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Ruth; husband, Elwood; daughter, Barbara Collins; and brother, Warren Starry.
