A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 29 with visitation starting one hour prior at Washburn-McReavy Glen Haven Chapel, 5125 West Broadway, Crystal, 763-533-8643. Virgil Chester Larson, the son of Chester and Erna Larson, was born on June 12, 1945 in Appleton. Virgil was raised on the family farm in Appleton where they raised cows, horses, chickens and pigs and had an outdoor family dog, Fido. Virgil had three siblings; Marcella, Sandra and Arden. Shortly after graduating high school, he was united in marriage to Jeanette Lawson. This union was blessed with three children: Deborah, David and Jennifer. Upon separation, Virgil found new hope in a life and union in marriage with Karen Larson. For many of his adult years, Virgil worked for Pro-Tech in the printed circuit business. He started at the bottom and moved his way up. As always, he took pride in his work and was always a hard worker. In his retired years, he enjoyed working at the Annandale Park part-time and taking care of the grounds there. He and Karen most recently attended St. John’s Luteran Church in Annandale and have been attending for many years. Virgil had several passions in life. He took pride in home ownership and his home projects. He couldn’t sit still for very long and always had a project he was working on. He also had a lot of generosity, as he was always looking out for his neighbors and helping them with their yard work and handyman repairs as well as his own. He and Karen enjoyed several years of planting and harvesting a huge garden. His hobbies included doing woodworking projects, as well as enjoying many years of fishing and golfing, and he always enjoyed playing cards and games with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Karen Larson; his siblings, Sandra Schake and Arden (and Karen) Larson; his three children, Deborah Larson, David (and Lawanda) Larson and Jennifer Carlson; his grandchildren, Anthony Baird, Ryan Baird, Jessica Baird, Nicholas Lambert; Katie Larson, Jazale Banks, Michael Larson, Jakayla Banks; Destiny Carlson, Zachary Carlson and Kory Winters; and great grandson Arroe Day. He is also survived by his step-children, Debbie (and Frank) Sheehy and Dean Mattila; his step-grandchildren, Denae (and Derek) Sanderson and Dereck Juillerat; and step-great-grandchildren, Delanie and Decker Sanderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Erna Larson, his sister Marcella (and Bernard) Westhausen, Loren Schake and his nephew Douglas Schake. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Blessed be the memory of Virgil Larson.
