Elizabeth Jane Johnson

Elizabeth Jane (Burckhard) Johnson, of Annandale, died on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023 at the age of 87 (two days shy of her 88th birthday, so technically, we’re giving it to her). She passed peacefully with her family by her side. Visitation and mass of Christian burial will be held Wednesday, Oct. 4, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale. The visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the church service following at 11 . The family will attend the burial services at Pleasant View Cemetery immediately following the church service. Elizabeth (Betty) Burckhard, was born on Sept. 18, 1935, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, to Frank and Christine (Keller) Burckhard. She grew up in Devils Lake, where she met and married the love of her life, Lee Shaver Johnson. They married on Oct. 16, 1954, and were blessed with eight children. They moved to Annandale in 1957 where they created a beautiful life with their family and friends. She enjoyed spending time with family, and often coordinated huge family reunions. She was incredibly talented, and enjoyed gardening, baking, cooking, painting, sewing, reading, and crafting. Her sense of humor was second to none. You could always count on her for a zingy one-liner, or a witty comeback, and together, her and Lee made up a once-in-a-lifetime comedy duo. Elizabeth was a compassionate, kind, and strong woman; but above all, she was a devout Christian with enormous faith. At her core, she was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who found immense joy in being surrounded by family. We find comfort knowing she was greeted in Heaven by all the loved ones she had been missing. Elizabeth is survived by her husband Lee Johnson; children: Scott (Shelley) Johnson, Connie Glazier, Ron (Mary) Johnson, Jody (Steve) Pellegrene, Coreen Dougherty, and Christine (Bradley) Fobbe; 29 grandchildren, 36 great- grandchildren and many other precious family and friends – if you know, you know) – Betty would’ve appreciated that humor. She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Christine Burckhard, son’s Kent Johnson and Craig Johnson, grandson Grant Glazier, son-in-law Mike Dougherty, and many other cherished family and friends. Ron and Mary Johnson will serve as urn bearers. The music will be provided by Gina Downs and Sam Pellegrene.
