Wylis C. Muehring, age 96, of South Haven, died on Friday, Jan. 19, 2024 at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fairhaven with Pastor David Buchs officiating.
Burial will follow at Concordia Cemetery. Visitation was held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale with a prayer service at 6 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church.
Wylis Charles Muehring was born on June 26, 1927, in Watkins, Minnesota, the only child of William and Ella (Schmidt) Muehring. He graduated with the Class of 1944 from Kimball High School. After completing his education, Wylis embarked on a fulfilling career as a farmer and a rural mail carrier, dedicating himself to serving his community and tending to the land he cherished. On July 10, 1954, Wylis was united in marriage to Gracie Ann Erickson at Concordia Lutheran Church.
Wylis was a genuine and hardworking individual, recognized for his unwavering commitment to his family and community. He possessed an exceptional work ethic and genuine passion for farming and cutting wood, which brought him immense joy throughout his life. As a respected member of the Southside Township Board and South Haven School Board, Wylis actively contributed his wisdom and insight to important decisions that shaped the future of his town. Wylis Charles Muehring will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a compassionate community leader, and a hardworking farmer who exemplified the virtues of integrity, love, and commitment.
Wylis is survived by his wife, Gracie; children, Debbie (Keith) Fischer of South Haven, William (Debra) Muehring of South Haven, Lori (Ed) Barthel of South Haven, and Patti (Leon) Hinnenkamp of Litchfield; 10 grandchildren, Jennifer (Brian) Theisen, Dan (Chrystal) Fischer, Jessie (Tyler) Blonigen, Melissa (Corey) Paulson, Samantha (Zach) Raymond, Matt Muehring (Megan Webb), John, Jr. (Leslie) Matthees, Char Reid, Brandon Barthel, Ashley Hinnenkamp, and Michael Hinnenkamp; 18 great-grandchildren, Brayden, Aaron, Jake, Lily, Gavin, Oliver, Tyson, Emily, Lukas, Alayna, Lauren, Camryn, Mackenzie, Lauren, Taylor, Jack, Peyton, and Leland.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
His presence and guidance will be deeply missed by all his family members, who found solace and strength in his unwavering love and support.
Dan Fischer, Matt Muehring, Corey Paulson, Zach Raymond, John Matthees, Jr., Brandon Barthel, and Michael Hinnenkamp will serve as casket bearers for the service. Music for the service will be provided by Lynn Hoff. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
