
Maxine L. Fashant, age 93, of Cokato, formerly of Annandale, died Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, at Cokato Manor surrounded by the love of her family.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Edina with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at St. Ignatius Catholic Cemetery, Annandale.
Memorials are preferred to the Cokato Charitable Trust.
Maxine Lois Hausken was born in Mantador, North Dakota to C. Adolph and Lydia (Wandersee) Hausken on Sept. 3, 1930. She grew up in Mantador, before moving with her family to Annandale, where she graduated in 1948. During her high school years, Maxine worked at the Dale Theater, as well as the lumber yard, and with her dad at the the railroad depot. Following her high school graduation, Maxine attended Augsburg College. On April 21, 1949, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Ronald Russell Fashant in Decorah, Iowa. They lived in Annandale, Chicago, Brooklyn Park, Bismarck, and many other locations based on where Ron’s career took them. They spent their retirement years in Fair Haven and Kimball until they moved to Cokato Manor.
Maxine’s passion for family was evident in the bond she shared with her 10 children. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, from bowling and crossword puzzles to reading and cheering on her favorite sports teams, especially the Minnesota Vikings. Her greatest joy in life came from spending time with her grandchildren, playing cards, and sharing laughter and stories of days gone by.
Maxine is survived by her children, Susan Daniewicz of Minneapolis, Sally Fashant of Brooklyn Park, Cindy (Mike) Collins of Minneapolis, Jeff of Brooklyn Park, Mary (Dale) Kerrigan of West St. Paul, Martha (Greg) Gentilini of Farmington, Katie Fashant (Peter Dowd) of Minneapolis, and Andy (Karen) of Annandale; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Ron; parents, Adolph and Lydia; sons, Tom and Chris; and siblings, Rilla, Owen, Charles, Eleanor, Kathleen, and Donald.
Maxine’s family will serve as urn bearers.
