Wayne Eugene Tomes was born Nov. 11, 1961, in Los Angeles, California to Ralph and Judith (Jacobs) Tomes. He grew up in the Los Angeles area before moving with his family to Waverly, Minnesota in grade school. After his high school years, he worked at Pilgrim Cleaners in Robinsdale while living in Crystal. In October of 1981, Wayne was united in marriage to Karen Triplett; she preceded him death. They started their family in the Crystal area, before moving to Annandale. While living in Annandale, Wayne worked at Whirltronics in Buffalo, followed by Dana Spicer in Plymouth. He was currently working with Heating and Cooling Two in Maple Grove. On June 8, 2013, Wayne was united in marriage to Lisa Van Lith. They continued to make their home in Annandale.
Throughout his life, Wayne found joy in the simple pleasures – from working on old cars to relishing in the camaraderie of junk yards and car shows, to spending time with his family showing off his grilling skills. To say Wayne was a car enthusiast was an understatement. It was not uncommon to be driving by, spot a car in the yard, only to have him turn around to go admire the car in someone’s yard. (Sorry if he trespassed on your property.)
Wayne is survived by his wife, Lisa of Annandale; children, Tina (Pat) Novacek of South Haven, Brian (Brittany) Tomes of Annandale, and Mike Tomes of Kimball; grandchildren, Melanie, Lydia, Gabe, Tosh, and Van; stepson, Justin Worden (Samantha Hinkemeyer) of Clearwater; siblings, Ralph (Becky Potter) of Maple Lake, Jim of Bloomer, Wisconsin, Karen Wiggins of St. Paul, and Leslie of Pueblo, Colorado; stepmother, Kathy Tomes; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Judith, and wife, Karen.
Jim Tomes, Karen Wiggins, Ralph Tomes, Kyle Goodwin, Jason Bertelsen, and Jeff Goodwin will serve as casket bearers.
