John O’Fallon was born June 4, 1934 in Dassel, Minnesota to Gerald and Gertrude O’Fallon. He passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, July 27, at his son’s home in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
John graduated from Dassel High School and then honorably served in the Army. He was hired by IBM where he worked for over 30 years.
John had a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face for most anyone. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose A. (Freeman) O’Fallon, whom he loved with all his heart. When she was ill, he stayed by her side all day long for years.
John was a natural handyman and could “McGyver” most anything. He had a joyful heart, enjoyed classical music, the occasional Manhattan, playing cards, tinkering in the garage, and was proud of his Dassel and Annandale heritage.
He is survived by his son Michael (Stacy) O’Fallon of Eden Prairie, his daughters Patricia O’Fallon and Mary (Bill) Lindemann both of California, sisters-in-law Patricia O’Fallon of Paynesville, Dolores Hogberg of Annandale, and Sandra Freeman of Dassel. Step-children Laurel Geesey of Cokato and Randall Wilson of Colorado and numerous nieces and nephews. His beloved granddaughters Katie, Elizabeth, and Kasey; grandsons David, Bryan, Kristopher, and Travis. Many other family members, cherished friends, supportive neighbors, parishioners at Annandale United Methodist Church, and so many more. Oh, to be so loved!
The family wants to thank everyone who stopped by to bring cheer to John’s day and to sit and chat with him (or just be silly with him). He loved spending time with you, and you always brought a smile to his face.
We’d be amiss if we didn’t mention Vince, the most patient, supportive boyfriend of a granddaughter, Katie, any grandfather could ask for. How many times can two people drive six hours each way to visit? Many, many times. He felt your love.
In addition to his wife, Rose, he’s preceded in death by his parents Gerald and Gertrude (Kisling) O’Fallon, brothers Daniel O’Fallon, Richard (Ann) O’Fallon, Thomas (Marlys) O’Fallon, Robert O’Fallon, Gerald (Rose) O’Fallon, and his daughter Kathryn (Kirk) Koelzer of California.
He will be missed. A memorial celebration to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please consider spending time with an elderly friend or relative.
