Sharon Lee Olean was born on July 12, 1946, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Clarence and Dorothy (Triplett) Olean. She grew up in rural Annandale, alongside her brother, Don. Cheri was a 1964 graduate of Annandale High School. She then furthered her education at the Swedish Hospital School of Nursing before obtaining her BSN from Augsburg University in Minneapolis. Cheri married Howard “Howie” Walberg on Nov. 30, 1968, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale. Together, they raised their two boys east of Annandale.
Cheri lived a life marked by love, compassion, and a deep commitment to her family and her vocation as a registered nurse. She devoted 46 years as a nurse. Her career began at Fairview Southdale, followed by many years at the Monticello Hospital as a RN nurse manager; she retired from the St. Cloud VA Hospital.
Always encouraging her boys to pursue their dreams and realize their potential, Cheri’s love and enthusiasm extended to her grandchildren, whose sporting events brought her immeasurable joy. Through the years, Cheri could often be found sitting next to Howie cheering and offering her unwavering support from the sidelines at football, softball, baseball, soccer, and basketball games.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Howie of Annandale; sons, Kipp (Carey) of Maple Grove, and Kirk (Kristi) of Ramsey; grandchildren, Ethan, Ava, Beck, and Merritt Walberg; sister-in-law, Sherrie Olean of Annandale; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Don.
Cheri’s grandchildren will serve as urn bearers.
