Jeannette (Jan) Darlene Chapman of Plymouth, Minn., passed away on May 15, 2025 at the age of 90. She was born on September 28, 1934 to Bill and Hulda Johnson in International Falls, Minn., and then lived in Sebeka, Minn., until the age of four when her family moved to Minneapolis, Minn. She attended Harrison grade school, Lincoln Junior High and graduated in 1952 from North High School. She made many friends in high achool that she remained friends with until the day of her death.
She married Jim Chapman in 1952 at age 17. Their marriage lasted 43 years until he died on August 22, 1995. They had five children and lived in Crystal, Minn., until all the children graduated from high school. Then Jim and Jeannette moved to Annandale to enjoy their lake home on Lake Sylvia. When the work commute got too much, they decided to move to a condo in Plymouth, Minn.
She loved all the lake cabins they enjoyed in Grand Rapids, Mille Lacs and Annandale. She loved fishing, being on the lake with her family, making tasty meals, and baking wonderful cookies. She was talented at drawing and painting. We cherish hand-painted wood carolers, a picturesque painted wall mural and other paintings she shared with family.
She worked as a banquet waitress at various hotels for 40 years.
Six years after Jim died, she met Cliff Ebert with whom she had a 20-plus-year relationship. His family was good to her and she enjoyed being welcomed to their family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers Vern, Ron and Jim.
She is survived by her children: Gail (Chuck) Smith from Milaca, Minn.; Dan (Connie) from Denton, Texas; Pat (Jessica) South Haven, Minn.; Dave from Milaca, Minn., and Tim (Tina) from Marathon Key, Fla., and grandchildren Pete, Evan, Darcy, Chris, Brody, Jake, Breanna, James, Marina, Roman, and great grandchildren Trent, Dominick, Tommy, Kyle, Allie, Avery, Beckett, Elaina, Gordon, Aubrey and Quinn.
Her last week was spent visiting with family, going for boat rides, enjoying her grandcats Finn and Kitkat snuggling on her lap and looking forward to meeting a new great grandchild on the way. May God and all her loved ones welcome her to heaven. We will all miss her so much and we know she will welcome us to heaven when it is our time.
Family and friends are invited to attend a funeral mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church, New Hope, on Thursday, May 29, at 11 a.m. Visitation with the family will begin one hour prior to service.
Interment to follow at Fort Snelling at a later date.
