Born in Annandale on November 12, 1942, Bob graduated from Annandale High School in 1961. He began his career at Magnuson Supervalu before moving into the butchery trade. In 1972, he married Criss; though they later divorced, they remained close friends. Bob later worked for Hormel Foods in Oklahoma and Ron Mar Foods in Hopkins.
While living in Oklahoma, Bob was introduced to the swimming pool industry– an experience that would shape the rest of his life. After returning to Minnesota, he founded Blue Water Pools & Spas in 1982. Over the years, Bob built countless lasting relationships within the industry, always eager to learn about new products and share stories with anyone who would listen at pool seminars. More than forty years later, Blue Water Pools continues to thrive under the leadership of his daughter, Molly, and her husband, Jeremy, proudly serving many of Bob’s very first customers.
Bob had many passions– he loved sports, music, and, most of all, time spent with his family. His greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren at their activities and celebrating their accomplishments.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Molly (Jeremy) Fick; grandchildren, Mason and Brynley; sister, Barb (Mike) McNellis; sister-in-law, Marge; and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carlton and Marguerite Magnuson; brother, Bill Magnuson; and Criss Magnuson.
A celebration of life will be held on December 5, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at The Peterson Chapel in St. Michael, Minnesota.
