■ The first discussion for Annandale’s second annual Community Read takes place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the library. This year’s book is "Unbroken," by Laura Hillenbrand. Everyone is invited to pick up a copy of the book at the library, Arenson’s, Kaz Hardware, Annandale State Bank, In Hot Water or Marketplace. Participants are invited to pick up their books now and start reading, then come to three discussion sessions. ■ "Going once, going twice. Sold!" That will be the sound of auctioneer Barb Weber in action at a ladies brunch just for you on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Reichel’s Event Center. There will be a silent auction before the brunch. ■ Concordia Lutheran Church of Fair Haven is holding its Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Coffee and rolls from 9 to 10:30 a.m., soup, sandwich and pie from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds to benefit the general fund.
■ The Dassel-Cokato Regional Ice and Sports Center will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 12, at the arena. The interior of the arena is still a work in progress and will move forward as money is raised. More fundraising events are being planned. The drawing for the 2013 Polaris Sportsman 500 four- wheeler will be held at 11 a.m.
■ Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 400 County Road 37 in Maple Lake, is holding its Bazaar and Bake Sale from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Crafts, backed, goods, raffle, white elephant. Come for lunch and enjoy a potato bar with toppings.
■ Minnesota Pioneer Park in Annandale will host a fall pancake breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13. The pioneer kitchen will be in full gear cooking up eggs, pancakes and sausage. There also will be juice, coffee and milk available. See the ad on page 3B.

■ Fall break in the Annandale School District is Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17 and 18. There is no school. Classes resume on Monday, Oct. 21.

The Wright County Human Services van provides a number of health services and screenings at no or reduced costs, including immunizations. ■ Artists interested in learning outdoor painting techniques may sign up now for an outdoor paint-out instructed by Richard Abraham, president of Outdoor Painters of Minnesota. Artists will meet at the Dassel History Center on Saturday, Oct. 19, at 9 a.m., and then will go to a local farm where Abraham will teach and demonstrate techniques. ■ The next Fare For All food distribution will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Annandale City Hall. Volunteers may help from 9 a.m. to noon. Orders for this Saturday must be received by Friday, Oct. 11. Orders for the next month can be placed when food is picked up.
