■ Annandale High School’s Homecoming coronation was Monday night at AHS. The event kicks off Homecoming week. See the Homecoming section in this week’s Advocate for more information. The Cardinals host New London-Spicer on Friday, Oct. 4.

■ Collection of winter coats, snowpants boots, mittens, gloves and hats for the The Team Up to Warm Up winter wear give-away event is taking place from Oct. 1 until Monday, Oct. 28, to donate to those who don’t have items to keep them bundled up this winter. Donations will be accepted at all churches, all Annandale schools, Marketplace, Arenson’s, Annandale State Bank and United Country Premier Real Estate. The give-away/distribution date is set for Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. at Classic Hall on Highway 55 in Annandale. ■ The October meeting of the Annandale Improvement Club will be Thursday, Oct. 3, at 10 a.m. at Reichel’s Event Center. Following the business meeting, Suzanne Quinn-McDonald will share the knowledge she has gained in her 35 years of teaching, assessing and evaluating autistic 3 to 5-year-old children during her career in Early Childhood-Special Education. Donations for October are requested to Friendship Venture (memo): autistic campers. The public is welcome. Lunch reservations are required to attend. The RSVP was due on Monday, Sept. 30.

■ The annual Annandale High School Fourscore and More Reunion will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3, at Camp Friendship for alumni of 1930 through 1951, with a special welcome for the Class of ’51. For more information, contact Eleanor Partridge at 274-5460.

■ The Annandale Area Community Team’s Arts Committee cordially invites everyone to the annual Downtown Annandale Art Crawl held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. This festive event is hosted by downtown business owners who provide hospitality and refreshments to the public. Local and area artists and musicians will be featured at 13 downtown locations. A wide variety of art mediums will be showcased this year. See the article in last week’s Advocate. 

■ Annandale will host New London-Spicer at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, for Homecoming. A tailgate party is planned before the game from 3:30 to 6 p.m. at the AHS softball field. See the Homecoming section in this issue.

■ Clearwater Travel Plaza will hold its fifth annual Walk For Hope Saturday, Oct. 5, at Warner Lake. Sign-up begins at 9 a.m. Money raised will go toward breast cancer research and support. There are many prizes. Go to www.clearwatertravelplaza.com for more information.

■ The Annandale Farmers Market will be open on Saturday, Oct. 5. The market runs from 8 a.m. to noon. It is located near the post office and city hall. This is the final Saturday of the season for the market.

■ Zion United Methodist Church, 450 Fairhaven Ave. in South Haven, is holding a rummage and bake sale from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 5. Household, books, small to XX large clothing, lots of miscellaneous items. There is something for everyone. Bag sale the last hour.

■ The Timber Dash 5K Trail Run, Walk and Kids Fun Run is Saturday, Oct. 5, at Lake Maria State Park in Monticello. The 5K has three other events this year. The Kids K will kick off the event at 9:30 a.m., with the 5K run at 10 a.m. and the 5K walk a few minutes after the runners have left the start line. For more information, call 763-271-1674. ■ The Cokato Finish American Historical Society will hold its annual Fall Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5. All historical buildings will be open with displays. A bake sale featuring local as well as Finnish goodies, will start at 10. The program will start at noon in the Temperance Hall. Audrey Tack will present the Niemi-Johnson Nelson family history. There will also be an update on the planning for FinnFest USA 2014. The CFAHS has been chosen to host the opening ceremony of this national event. Temperance Corner is located three miles north of Cokato on County Road 3, about 10 miles south of Highway 55.

■ Annandale Middle School student Tobias Stumpf will be signing his book ‘Journal of an ADHD Kid’ from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, at Buffalo Books and Coffee. ■ The Annandale History Club will meet at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at the Senior Dining Site in city hall. The program will be the history of the Annandale Fire Department. All are welcome to this interesting and informative program.

■ Help provide a memorable, safe and worry-free night for Annandale High School seniors on graduation night. The next meeting of the Annandale All-Night Graduation Party is Wednesday, Oct. 9. ■ The first discussion for Annandale’s second annual Community Read takes place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the library. This year’s book is "Unbroken," by Laura Hillenbrand. Everyone is invited to pick up a copy of the book at the library, Arenson’s, Kaz Hardware, Annandale State Bank, In Hot Water or Marketplace. Participants are invited to pick up their books now and start reading, then come to three discussion sessions. The second discussion is 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 23, at Marketplace, and the third is at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, in the city hall community room. See the story in this issue.

■ "Going once, going twice. Sold!" That will be the sound of auctioneer Barb Weber in action at a ladies brunch just for you on Thursday, Oct. 10, at Reichel’s Event Center. There will be a silent auction before the brunch. Bring your donated canned and baked goods, plants, crafts etc. between 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. The silent bidding will start at 9 a.m. The live auction will follow the meal along with the featured speaker Karen Ferguson of Onalaska, Wis. ■Concordia Lutheran Church of Fair Haven is holding its Fall Bazaar on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Coffee and rolls from 9 to 10:30 a.m., soup, sandwich and pie from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Proceeds to benefit the general fund.

■ Bethlehem United Church of Christ, 400 County Road 37 in Maple Lake, is holding its Bazaar and Bake Sale from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 12. Crafts, backed, goods, raffle, white elephant. Come for lunch and enjoy a potato bar with toppings.

■ Annandale United Methodist Church will hold its annual Harvest Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16. at the church located on corner of Oak Avenue and Park Street. Everyone is invited.

■ Fall break in the Annandale School District is Thursday and Friday, Oct. 17 and 18. There is no school. Classes resume on Monday, Oct. 21.

■ The Wellness on Wheels van will be at the Marketplace in Annandale from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17. The Wright County Human Services van provides a number of health services and screenings at no or reduced costs, including immunizations. It will be at Roger’s BP station in Maple Lake on Tuesday, Oct. 29, and at the Clearwater Coborn’s on Monday, Oct. 7. The van does not go out in poor weather conditions.

■ The next Fare For All food distribution will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, at Annandale City Hall. Volunteers may help from 9 a.m. to noon. Orders for this Saturday must be received by Friday, Oct. 11. Orders for the next month can be placed when food is picked up. ■ Minnesota Pioneer Park’s Halloween Spectacular will be held from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, at the park on Highway 55. Watch the Advocate for more information.
