The high school’s production of "The Charm School" proved a great success from both a dramatical and financial point of view. Since the play depended upon the character delineation rather than the plot for its humor, the cast may feel that they were successful in keeping their audience entertained.

Late Advocate editor and publisher John Tygeson, who died at age 50 after falling ill with erysipelas, is remembered. He worked as a farm laborer, then a teacher, was a mail carrier for nine years in Raymond, and served as a justice of the peace. After learning what he could of the printing trade in his spare time, he bought a paper in Wisconsin, then leased the South Haven Leader for one year before taking over the Advocate in 1915.

"It was his highest ambition to so live that the world would be better for his having lived in it," the Advocate said. "He was a good man, a loving husband and tender father, a good neighbor, a friend to all in need."

Several cases of whooping cough and scarlet fever have developed during the past few days. It seems the fever is very persistent in not giving up its hold in this locality.

Fire was discovered in the Annandale school house by a passing motorist about 5 a.m. last Thursday. Smoke was seen coming from the southwest corner of the new building. Damage caused by the fire was estimated by one party at $25,000, and damage by smoke and water at $1,000. Classes were held as usual that day.

With the change of weather and warmish days, field work is underway. Seeding is late this season, as well as pastures. That means livestock will have to be on winter feed, and lucky is the farmer who has plenty of hay, which is not true in all localities.

The Annandale School District’s school resource officer will stay another year thanks to school board action to provide its share of funding. For the past 3.5 years, the SRO’s salary was paid with money from a Federal Community Oriented Policing Services grant, but that is scheduled to end this fall. Now the school district and city will each pay $20,000 for the position, currently held by Nancy Engfer. School board members, in explaining their funding choice, said losing the SRO would be a step backward.
