Police search turns up drugs

Felony charges are expected to be filed soon after police searched an Annandale house last week and found drugs, according to Police Chief Jeff Herr.

Annandale police and Wright County sheriff’s deputies assisted the Sherburne County Drug Task Force in executing a search warrant at 250 Maple Ave. on Wednesday afternoon, June 29, Herr said.

No one was in the house at the time and no arrests were made, but felony drug charges are pending, he said.

Council considers parks plan

The Annandale City Council was scheduled to conduct a public hearing Tuesday night, July 5, on an updated Parks, Trails and Open Space Plan and then consider adopting the document.

The 7 p.m. session, switched from the council’s usual Monday night meeting because the July 4 holiday fell on that date, was to be held after the Advocate’s deadline.

A major feature of the updated plan is incorporation of the former site of the city’s sewage treatment ponds for a complex of athletic fields. The 80-acre, city-owned property is east of Annandale High School.

The Annandale Planning and Zoning Commission has recommended the council approve the parks plan, which would be an amendment to the city’s comprehensive plan.

Also on the agenda was an Annandale Area Chamber of Commerce request that Main Street between Highway 55 and Cedar Street be closed from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31, as a safety measure during the chamber’s Halloween trick-or-treat event.

The fire department would block both ends of Main with fire trucks, and Chestnut Street would be barricaded.

City approval would be contingent on approval from the Minnesota Department of Transportation since Main Street is also Highway 24.

– The South Haven City Council was scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the fire hall.

Urdahl announces financing

State Rep. Dean Urdahl, R-Acton Township, has announced that Annandale will receive a financing package to conduct water main improvements, with favorable loan terms saving taxpayers more than $200,000.

The Minnesota Public Facilities Authority has approved Annandale’s financing application for water main improvements along Chestnut Street, Myrtle and Poplar avenues.

The city is conducting the project with support from a $1.2 million Drinking Water Revolving Fund 20-year loan at an interest rate of 1.959 percent.

The PFA estimates local taxpayers will save $205,112 in interest costs compared with current market rates.

"Congratulations to the city of Annandale for submitting a successful application," Urdahl said. "Funding is limited for projects like these, so I was pleased to hear Annandale received approval.

"It is important to maintain our vital infrastructure, including our drinking water. I was happy to support this project and it is good the terms of the loan will protect local taxpayers."
