Card will tell Rocori: ‘We’re thinking of you’

A Fair Haven woman and her 7-year-old daughter are putting together a giant sympathy card for Rocori High School, where a shooting last week killed one student and critically injured another.  Rebecca Lorenz said her daughter, Summer Leary, suggested the card when she heard the news about the tragedy.  One of the sheets was located at Marketplace in Annandale and another was at Bendix Elementary School.  Summer, a second-grader at Maple Lake Elementary, attended Bendix last year.  Other sheets were placed at schools and businesses in Buffalo, Maple Lake, Kimball and St. Cloud.  Rocori freshman John Jason McLaughlin, 15, has been charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder and assault in the Wednesday, Sept. 24, shootings.

They’ve circulated up to 70 sheets of 28-inch by 32-inch poster board and hope to collect 15,000 to 20,000 signatures, messages and drawings.  They plan to tape or staple the sheets into large pages and deliver them to the Rocori principal, students and staff in Cold Spring on Wednesday, Oct. 1.  “It’s mainly a support card to let them know that we’re here and we’re thinking about them,” Lorenz said.
