Candidate field narrowed down
The Annandale School Board was scheduled to gather Monday, Feb. 27, for two meetings in Annandale Elementary School Community Room.
There was a special meeting at 6 p.m. and a regular meeting at 7 p.m. These two meetings were scheduled to take place after the Advocate’s Monday deadline. Coverage will be provided in the Wednesday, March 8, Advocate.
At the special meeting the board was expected to:
■ Review superintendent applicants’ information from the search consultant and decide on six or seven finalists out of 44 total applications. The board will also discuss the schedule for interviews, interview procedures and interview questions.
■ Discuss, decide and schedule the steps necessary for the rest of the superintendent hiring process.
At the regular meeting the board was expected to:
■ Consider awarding contracts for Phase 2 of the recreation park.
■ Consider approving the resignation of Wanda Kraemer, biology teacher at AHS, as well as the resignations of Danielle Leinonen, Kelsey Hogie and Jen Mitchell, AHS gymnastic coaches.
■ Consider approval of Luke MacLean’s Activities Director contract.
■ Consider approval of the 2017-18 Integration Plan and Budget.
■ Discuss options for the traffic issues at the AES entrance.
■ Consider approving a contract for an art teacher for 2017-18.
■ Review and discuss student enrollment for 2017-18.
■ Discuss education issues for the 2017 Minnesota Legislature.
The next regular meeting of the Annandale School Board is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, March 27, at the Annandale Elementary School Community Room.
Apartments burn in Montrose
One woman was hospitalized after an apartment complex in Montrose caught fire late Wednesday evening, Feb. 15.
According to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, the fire at 330 Garfield Ave. S was reported at about 10:50 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies assisted with the evacuation of several residents, and firefighters from Montrose, Delano, Waverly and Howard Lake responded to extinguish the fire.
Keri L. Johnson-Reuben, 43, was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition.
The fire is under investigation by the Wright County Fire Investigation Team, the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
Teen struck by train in Waverly
A teen was struck by a train in Waverly and transported to a hospital in critical condition on Monday evening, Feb. 20.
According to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Tre Ertl, 18, of Litchfield was walking on the tracks when he was struck at about 7:30 p.m. near 4th Street. The investigation indicated that the operator of an eastbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train saw Ertl on the tracks, sounded the horn and applied the brakes, but it was too late to avoid hitting Ertl.
Sheriff’s deputies, Waverly firefighers and Allina Ambulance responded to the scene, where they found Ertl on the north side of the tracks just east of city limits. The incident remains under investigation by the Wright County Sheriff’s Office.
One hospitalized after crash
A 33-year-old man from Buffalo was hospitalized after a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of County State Aid Highways 5 and 39 just northwest of Annandale on Sunday, Feb. 26.
According to the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, Thomas Reineccius of Buffalo was heading west in a 2014 Chevrolet CZL when his vehicle entered the ditch on the north side of the road, vaulted over a field approach, landed in the ditch on the opposite side and spun around.
Reineccius was taken to North Memorial Hospital by ambulance for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Alcohol may have played a role in the crash, according to the sheriff’s office.
