Roger J. Plattes, 90, of Annandale and formerly of Grand Forks, N.D., died peacefully, Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009, at the Annandale Care Center where he was a resident. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, Annandale. Fr. Victor Valencia will officiate and burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service, Thursday at the church. He is survived by his five children and their spouses, Pamela and Doug MacPherson of Fullerton, Calif., Liz and Lance Morque of Minneapolis, Peter Plattes and Diana Lam of Milton, Mass., David Plattes and Shelley Cook of Pequot Lakes and Karen Plattes of Winthrop, Mass.; brother, Gordon and Pat Plattes of Arcadia, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Clementine; wife, Evelyn; and brother, Cyril. Roger Joseph Plattes was born Sept. 7, 1918, in St. Cloud to Peter and Clementine (Karsnia) Plattes. He graduated from St. Cloud Technical High School and St. John’s University in Collegeville with a degree in English. He married Evelyn Stahl on Sept. 19, 1942, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., and she preceded him in death on July 12, 2002. Roger served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked for 38 years as a reporter and editor at the Grand Forks Herald in Grand Forks, N.D. Roger’s wit and his enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed. Music: The St. Ignatius Guitar Group.
