Rev. Arthur G. Emerson

Rev. Arthur G. Emerson, 91, of Annandale died Monday, March 28, 2005, at the Annandale Care Center in Annandale.  Funeral services were held on Friday, April 1, at the Buffalo Presbyterian Church in Buffalo with Rev. James G. Ellison officiating. Interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale.  Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Annandale; children, Mrs. Carolyn (Fred) Atwood of Woodland, Calif., Mrs. Karen Collingwood of Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia and Mr. Dominic Mohamed of Miami, Fla.; grandchildren, Brian Atwood of California, Anezka Emerson of Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia, and Ebadut, Tac and Adhar Mohamed of Miami, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Sherry, Kirsten and Rhiana Atwood of California; sister, Mrs. Lois (James) Holstein of Bourbonnais, Ill.; brothers, LeRoy (Shirley) Emerson of Silva, Mo. and Willard Emerson of Cape Girardeau, Mo.  He was preceded in death by his parents.  Arthur George Emerson was born on Nov. 2, 1913, in St. Paul, the son of Charles and Theresa (Joseph) Emerson. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Dunwell on Aug. 2, 1938, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Arthur was a retired Clergyman of the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. and a member of the Twin Cities Area Presbytery since 1952. He held several positions in the Presbytery including vice moderator. He served as pastor in Wright, Iowa, Marengo, Iowa, Indianola, Iowa, Watertown, S.D., Andrew Presbyterian Church in Minneapolis, The Eden Prairie Presbyterian Church and the Rockford Presbyterian Church as well as filling the pulpit at Silver Creek Community Church and numerous other churches in the area. Mr. Emerson received his education at Northwestern Bible School (now known as Northwestern College in St. Paul), John Fletcher College, Drake University, Northern Baptist Seminary, and the University of Iowa. He was a member of Alpha Kappa Delta, National Honorary Sociological Fraternity at the University of Iowa. Mr. Emerson’s services to the community included 15 years as part-time chaplain at the Minnesota Correctional Institution for Women in Shakopee, board member of the Rockford, MN, School District, and the Meeker and Wright counties special education board, President of the Rockford Area Business Association. Mr. Emerson also served on Governor Rolvaag’s Advisory Council on Children and Youth. In retirement, Rev. and Mrs. Emerson founded the Direct Mission Aid Society, Inc. in 1982 and raised over $150,000 to support scores of national missionaries in Third World Countries.  Pallbearers: Henry Smith, Larry Wasmund, Everett McKown, John Nelson, Dominic Mohamed and Clinton Lund. Honorary pallbearers: Herb Smith, Roy Emerson and Direct Mission Aid Society Board Members.  Music: Janet Moberg, organist; Larry and Nancy Wasmund sang.
