
Hayde Lydia Lenora Klemz, age 102, of Annandale, died Monday, Dec. 18, 2023, at the Annandale Care Center surrounded by the love of her family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Zion Lutheran Church, Annandale with Rev. Tyler LaGrave officiating. Burial will follow at Corinna Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church.
Hayde Lydia Lenora Kallunki was born Sept. 9, 1921, at home in Annandale, Minnesota to John and Olga (Kivela) Kallunki. She grew up in rural Annandale and graduated from Annandale High School in 1939. Following her graduation, Hayde worked as a seamstress for the war efforts, in addition to providing care for a family whose mother had died. On March 4, 1944, she was united in marraige to Lloyd D. Klemz at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Silver Creek. They had met at a dance, where Lloyd was Hayde’s first and last dance partner. They made their home in St. Cloud, prior to moving to Crystal. In 1984, they returned to Annandale to make their home. While Lloyd worked for Burlington Northern Railroad, Hayde stayed home to provide love and care for their children, Gary and Faye, as well as waitressed.
Hayde’s faith was of utmost importance. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith. When Lloyd and Hayde moved to Annandale, they became members of Zion Lutheran Church in Annandale. She was involved with various groups including LWML and helping with funeral lunches and helping with many church activities. She was a former member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Cloud. In support of Lloyd’s career in the railroad industry, Hayde also belonged to the Railroad Womens Auxiliary.
Hayde enjoyed traveling, especially to Arizona in the winter and to Finland with Lloyd. She was a gifted seamstress and often made clothes for her children. She was an amazing cook and baker, especially her pies!
Hayde is survived by her daughter, Faye Klein of Annandale; grandchildren, Brad (Amy) Klemz, Paige (Jason) Ovick, Brooke (Shane) Borst, Melanie Klein, and Bonnie Klein; great-grandchildren, Todd, Damien, Antonia, Hunter, Duncan, Chris, Naomi, Melissa, Jessica; great-great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Hunter, Isabell, and Emmitt; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lloyd; son, Gary; grandsons, Todd and Tony; son-in-law, Ron “Archie”; brothers, Archie, Marvin, Roland, John, Don, Melvin and Arnold; and sister, Julia Ulku.
Hayde’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren will serve as casket bearers.
