Charles “Chuck” Flygare, age 82, of South Haven, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at his home.
In honor of Chuck’s wishes, a private gathering will be held.
Charles Jon Flygare was born April 9, 1941, in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Robert and LaVonne (Otterness) Flygare. He grew up on Lake Sylvia near Annandale and was a 1959 graduate of Annandale High School. Following his graduation, Chuck moved to the Los Angeles area where he raced motorcycles and drove truck. He eventually found his way back to Minnesota, first to Hopkins before eventually settling on Lake Marie near South Haven.
Chuck worked as a sales rep in the plumbing and HVAC industry. He retired after many years with SPS Companies in St. Cloud. In retirement, he was a fixture at the Flygare Excavating Shop. Always willing to help with repairs or drive truck when help was needed.
Outside of his career, Chuck enjoyed various hobbies and interests. He loved riding motorcycles and snowmobiles, seeking adventure and exhilaration with each journey. His green thumb was evident in his beautifully maintained garden, where he and Mary spent countless hours cultivating produce and waging war on the persistent deer and rabbits that were drawn to it. Chuck also enjoyed fishing, golfing, and tinkering on projects in his garage. He was always willing to help with the project of a friend or family member in need.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Mary of South Haven; sons, Dean (Debbie) of Annandale, Jason (Jenny) of Annandale, and Jeff (Angela) of Monticello; two grandchildren, Darren (Rachel) Flygare, Kristen (Andrew) Guthmiller; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Lynnae (Jim) Frappier of Annandale, Brian (Debbie) Flygare of Fairhaven, and Robin Frappier (Gary Garver) of Hamilton, MT; and nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and LaVonne; and brother, Robert.
