Betty Y. Nordling

Betty Y. Nordling, age 89 of Cokato, Minnesota passed away on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024.

Betty Yvonne (Martinson) Nordling was born Oct. 16, 1934 in French Lake Township to Axel and Thilda (Forsberg) Martinson.

She graduated from Dassel High School in 1952. After graduated she moved to Minneapolis and worked at Munsingwear in the bookkeeping department, later she worked at Advanced Machine and Stewart Lumber doing similar work. On Oct. 11, 1958 she was united in marriage to Richard (Dick) Nordling.  They lived for 60 years in Columbia Heights. They were active members of St. Phillip’s Lutheran Church. Betty enjoyed quilting and worked countless hours cleaning, sorting and pricing items for their annual garage sales.  Family, friends and church were priorities.  Gardening, sewing, cooking and taking care of her grandchildren were her joys.

She worked at Donaldson’s Department Store, which later became Carson Pirie Scott in the china and crystal department for 25 years.Betty is survived by her husband, Dick and their children, Carey (Kimberlyn) Nordling of Cokato, Craig (Marge) Nordling of Woodbury and Cindy Maertens of Anoka; two granddaughters Rachel Maertens and Isabel (Derek) Lutter and two great-grandchildren Owen and Avery Lutter.

Betty is preceded in death by her parents Axel and Thilda Martinson, sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Matt Lantto and brother, Glen Martinson.

A service will be on Thursday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Lutheran Church in Fridley, with visitation one hour prior.
