Kathleen ‘Kathy’ McAlpin

Kathleen “Kathy” McAlpin, age 80, of Annandale died Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025, at her home under the care of hospice and her family.

Kathy’s family will host a Celebration of Life from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, at Southbrook Grille, Annandale. Private burial will be held at Pleasant View Cemetery, near Annandale.

Kathleen Martha Throndson was born on April 5, 1944, in Underwood, Minnesota, to Irvin and Marion (Rich) Throndson. She grew up in Underwood until the age of 16, when her family relocated to New York Mills, where she graduated from high school. On June 8, 1963, Kathy married Michael McAlpin at St. Ann Catholic Church in Wadena. Kathy and Michael chose to raise their family in Annandale. Kathy filled her years with love, creativity, and devotion to her family. She dedicated her life to being a homemaker, skillfully balancing the warmth of her household with various roles, including her work at Jack and Jill.

Kathy’s talents were many; she was a gifted seamstress who crafted beautiful hand made items including many dance costumes and western shirts, reflecting her creative flair. Her talent extended beyond sewing; she loved to cook and bake, delighting her family with her culinary creations. Time spent horseback riding brought her joy. Kathy spent countless hours sewing, knitting, crocheting, and bringing joy to those around her. She also cherished the moments spent with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Michael of Annandale; children, Brennan “Buck” (Cindy) of Cross Lake, Bruce of Buffalo, Brenda (Tony) Geldert of Big Lake, Michael (Kristi) of Big Lake, Melissa of Annandale, and Matthew (Marfe) of Jacksonville, Florida; 20 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Karen (Frank) Jones of Pickeral Lake; and other family members and friends.

Kathy was preceded in death by her parents, Irvin and Marion Throndson; and grandsons, Connor, Daniel, and Hanse.
