Jean Patricia Erickson was born on February 4, 1957, in St. Cloud, Minn., to Marlys and Denton Erickson. Jean spent her early years in the comfort of Monticello, where she graduated from Monticello High School with the Class of 1975 and built the foundation for a life filled with love and community. On October 12, 1991, she joyfully married Thomas Matis in Monticello, sharing over three decades of laughter, love, and companionship. Together, they crafted a beautiful life full of cherished memories. In 2001, Jean and Tom made their home in rural South Haven.
Jean was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Annandale and contributed her time to the Monticello American Legion Auxiliary. Known for her kind heart, she was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need.
Her hobbies reflected her nurturing spirit; whether it was quilting cozy blankets for loved ones, baking for family and friends, tending to her beautiful garden, or doting on her beloved dogs, Jean poured her heart into all she did. Friends will remember her warmth, her infectious laughter, amazing carrot cake, and her ability to make everyone feel cherished.
Jean is survived by her husband, Thomas Matis; son, Robert Anderson of Fergus Falls; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Denton and Marlys Erickson; and brother, Jeff Erickson.
Jean’s grandchildren will serve as honorary urn bearers. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial and Cremation Services of Annandale.
