Curtis J. ‘Jim’ Palmer

Curtis J. “Jim” Palmer, 81 died March 24, 2026, at Annandale Care Center in Annandale, Minn.

Jim was born February 26, 1945, in Wagner, S.D., the son of Curtis J. and Pearl “Pat” (Meyer) Palmer. He married Marian Scheetz on November 9, 1963, at St. John Lutheran church, rural Dimock, S.D. They made their home in Pierre, S.D., where both were employed. While employed with Northwestern Bell Telephone, Jim’s career in telecommunications took them to Presho, S.D., in 1969 then to Rapid City, S.D., in 1972. They returned to Pierre in 1974, where he ultimately owned and operated his own telecommunications business for twenty years before retiring in 2004.

Among his favorite activities were playing cards (especially pinochle), fun visits and pizza parties with friends and family, and his aviation hobby. Jim was a licensed general aviation pilot and enjoyed owning and flying his own airplane.

In April 2024, Jim and Marian moved to Annandale, Minn., to enjoy more time with their growing family.

Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marian; daughters and sons-in-law, Valerie and Robert Marohn and Karla and Don Wold of Annandale; sister and brother-in-law Beverly and Ron Ingle of Pierre, S.D.; brother-in-law Roland Scheetz of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandchildren Madi (Hunter) Lund, Dylan (Trinity) Wold, Kayla (John) Langbehn and Tanner Marohn; great-grandsons Archer and Colton Lund and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his mother Pearl “Pat” Palmer, sister Marlene Hoffman, and brother-in-law Wilbur Hoffman.

To honor Jim’s wishes there will be no funeral services.
