Evelyn Marie Duesbury (Findley)

Evelyn was a small town Iowa gal who literally lived her dreams.

In her ‘retirement’ she earned her Master’s degree in Counseling with honors, and published seven books about understanding and interpreting dreams while also spending years studying thousands of her own dreams she journaled every night.

In her professional career she was a CPA, with a Master’s in Accounting, practicing for many years, including scoring the national CPA exams, before becoming an accounting professor at the University of Wisconsin, Platteville, where she taught for two decades.

Born November 21, 1935, in a small farmhouse near Morley, Iowa, she was the second oldest with six brothers. She met her future husband John H. Duesbury on an impromptu trip to Iowa State University for a brother’s birthday. John was her brother’s housemate and the only one who had a car to pick up Evelyn at the bus station. They were married just months later in Morely, Iowa, and started their 67-year marriage in Fairfield, Iowa.

Throughout her life, Evelyn always loved being busy and helping others…as a wife, mom and secretary, gardening, making clothes for her family and herself, typing papers for college students, working with her husband on their family farm near Collins, Iowa, creating dozens of oil paintings, and helping many of her accounting students outside of class, motorcycle rides and long walks in nature, and laughing with friends and family and camping in her favorite spot along the Mississippi River in Wisconsin.

But her greatest dream, as she repeatedly said, especially when she and John moved to a senior living home in Annandale, Minn., near their son and his wife, was, “I want to go to sleep with John H. Duesbury every night.” And she did exactly that. Every single night, including her last eternal sleep…with her beloved husband John H. Duesbury lying beside her, lovingly holding her hand.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Delmar and Marie Findley and brothers Kenneth, Ray and Mearl. Evelyn is survived by her husband John Duesbury, her son Steven and his wife Linda (Strom) and her grand-dogs Gus and Betty from Annandale, Minn., and brothers, Dale Findley, Ron Findley, and Chuck Findley. She will be missed, but is eternally with us and loving us…like always.

Evelyn will be laid to rest at Collins Evergreen Cemetery in Collins, Iowa.
