John “Grumpy” Garton, age 88, of Brooklyn Center, formerly of Annandale, passed away peacefully April 5, 2026. A U.S. Navy Veteran, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Garton Cook.
He will be missed by his children, Patti Johnson (Kevin), Cheryl Edberg (Ron); grandchildren, Nick Johnson (Tricia), Renee Johnson, CJ Johnson, Anthony Hondl, Angela Hondl, and Samantha Fahey (Brian); great grandchildren, Owen, Greta, Luke, Brenna, Madison, Charlee, Logann, Amelia, Fiona, Zoey, Ben and Harper; many relatives and good friends
Celebration of Life is 2 p.m. Sunday, April 26, at Zuhrah Shrine Center, 6120 Blue Circle Drive, Minnetonka (952-426-3023), with visitation one hour before service.
Interment is at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Avenue S, Minneapolis, at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 28. Family and friends are to gather at the assembly area by 9:45 a.m. to be led to your committal shelter.
