Alcuin "Al" Morris Rolfes, 89, of Annandale died on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2016, at the Annandale Care Center.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 27, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kimball. Interment at St. Anne Cemetery.
Al is survived by his children, Tammy (special friend Bob Auel) Lewis of Walker, Dean Rolfes of St. Cloud, Krista (John) Matthees of South Haven and Patricia (Jeff) Dinsmore of Ramsey; grandchildren, Micheal Roman, Emily Roman, John Jr. Matthees, Char Reid, Shane McGeough, Sarah McGeough and Jessica McGeough; great- grandchildren, Lauren Medinger, Mackenzie Matthees, Lauren Matthees, Jack Matthees, Camryn Reid and Taylor Reid; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Wilhelmina, brothers Jimmy, Allen, Anthony, Amandus and Harvey; sisters Delores Schwartz, Marcella Westbrock, Laverne Roering, Marie Rolfes and Alice Silbernick.
Alcuin "Al" Morris Rolfes was born on Oct. 5, 1927, near Freeport to Henry and Wilhelmina (Schulte) Rolfes. He was baptized and received his religious education at Church of the Sacred Heart in Freeport. He grew up near Freeport and graduated from Melrose High School in May of 1947. After graduation, he worked for his brother Amandus on his farm. A few years later he worked as a grain inspector before going to work at the Lakeland Bakery in St. Cloud. He was united in marriage with Elizabeth Grossinger on June 11, 1960, at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kimball. He worked for R.C. Hitchcock Foundry in Minneapolis for 29 years before retiring at age 62 in 1989. Al was a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Kimball and St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Annandale. He enjoyed fishing, singing and dancing to polka music, listening to Sid Hartman and watching the Minnesota Twins and Gopher teams.
