Annandale has had some nice business additions and expansions in the last couple of years. Despite the Great Recession and our "new" economy, our business community has kept plugging along, and in some cases, even expanded.
This week Lundeen Bros. Ford celebrates its remodeling at the dealership on Highway 55. Last year, Country Chevrolet, next door to Lundeen’s, was the site of all the digging and remodeling, and this past summer it was Lundeen’s turn. If you haven’t been into the new and expanded Lundeen’s, this is your chance. It’s beautiful and congratulations are in order for Vince Lundeen and his team.
We live in a "flat" world that allows us to buy almost anything from anywhere at anytime. You don’t need to buy a vehicle in town, read the local newspaper, or buy anything else on "Main Street." Chances are you can get something cheaper online or at a mall or big box store.
If people keep doing that, it will be end of our business community, and we will be driving miles and miles for everything, or ordering it from mega-corporations that cares very little about our community and contribute nothing to the tax base (and may not even pay sales taxes in the state).
Keep shopping locally and support our businesses. See pages 6A and 7A for more on Lundeen’s expansion.
■ As many Annandale folks know, Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen is married to Annandale High School graduate Ben Greve, son of Dave and Sandy.
The Lynx ended their season recently, just missing the championship finals series, which they’ve won twice in the last few years. I think I’ve shaken hands with Lindsay, but I don’t know her, yet anyone who has read about her and watched her play knows this: She is amazing. Sure, she’s a gifted athlete, but she just wills her team like a Michael Jordan or a Kirby Puckett back in the day. She’s a great example for young and old folks alike – in victory and in defeat. There’s no such thing as not giving 100 percent for this woman.
I remember Ben playing basketball the same way back in high school, causing misery to opposing teams (and then he went on to golf at the University of Minnesota and professionally).
Here’s hoping that Lindsay can keep playing several more years, and when she’s done, she’ll make a great coach, teacher or just fill in the blank.
