October 11, 1906

Annandale jeweler Wm. Krohn and family returned last Thursday evening from a two months visit in the West.

Miss Eleanor Nott was called to her home at Howard Lake on Saturday by the death of a brother, who died very suddenly on Friday night.

The council met in regular session in council room Oct. 1, 8 p.m. All of the members were present and the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read. Some of the business covered was the Standard Oil Co. one bbl (barrel) Gasoline, $8.25. The council meeting was adjourned after all the proceedings were complete.

According to an advertisement in this week’s issue, W.E. Friends is having a clearance sale from Sept. 24th to October 13th. A lot of jewelry, toilet preparations and perfumes are at 50 percent off.

The Ladies Circle of Grace church will meet Thursday for an all day session at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P.S. Rudolph. Dinner will be served at 12 o’clock. The ladies of Annandale are invited to attend.

The Annandale Opera House will be hosting a one night event on Wednesday, Oct. 17, by the Globe Comedy Co. There will be 50,000 feet of moving pictures, showing life-like productions of incidents that are happening in and about our world of wonder. The prices of admission are 25- and 35- cents. Seats for the engagement are on sale at Williams’ drug store.

A crew of men commenced work this morning on the new lath mill to be constructed for Wood & Polk. The work will be under the charge of Henry Joncas, formerly with the Brainerd Lumber company, who will have entire charge of the mechanical part of the business after the mill is put in operation.

The Cards put the finishing touches on a successful homecoming by defeating Dassel last Friday night by the score of 21-0. The Dassel team was the strongest the boys have met this year, but three touchdowns in the second quarter proved the winning margin. In the first half, the team played its best ball of the year.

A special invitation to Wright County boys and girls to join a 4-H club has been extended by County 4-H Club Agent Deane H. Johnson. Anyone between the ages of 10 and 21 is eligible to join.

There’s room for idealism on the Annandale City Council, Helen Stanton said in a recent interview. But not a pie-in-the-sky idealism; rather, an idealism that’s rooted in pragmatism and tempered with a sense of what can realistically be accomplished.

It’s happening again on Clearwater Lake – high water and floating bogs and, this time, a little guerrilla theater. Frustrated by what they perceive to be inaction by various government agencies, a couple of Clearwater Lake residents pushed a floating bog onto a public access, preventing anyone from using the access.Thirty-eight senior citizens signed the register last week. All responded by giving the pledge to the flag, led by President Yanish.

Serving hot lunches to hundreds of children each school day is no small job, but sometimes it is just like feeding children at home. The nationwide hot lunch program is 40 years old in 1986.

Performances of the Wright County Arts Association production of "The Good Doctor" will continue this weekend at the Maple Lake High School auditorium.

The most important time of the season is here for the Annandale cross country teams: The Wright County Conference meet Thursday at Delano and the District 20 meet Tuesday at Litchfield.

Tyler Wibstad, Annandale, is attending St. Cloud Technical College for advertising design. He was the Advocate’s intern last summer and is a recent graduate of St. Cloud Technical High School.
