I would like to remind the gentleman from Maple Lake ("No Thanks for Tax Increase," Wednesday, March 12, Advocate) and other like-minded folks in regards to using tax money for public transportation, i.e. light rail, that "they will never use" that huge sums of tax dollars are going to building roads that you will never in a lifetime drive on. We live in a community, a state, and a country that requires us to be interdependent and unselfish to achieve our goals as individuals and collectively as a nation. Look carefully around you and you will see all of the benefits you are bequeathed from your tax dollar. Look again and see how many of these benefits you could afford without scores of other taxpayers making contributions. I agree that we should hold our government to act responsibly, but I don’t expect something for nothing.
