Contact state Legislators

As a fellow Annandale High School graduate, I share Megan Trout’s concern about the possible elimination of the marching band and golf program (March 30 letter to the editor).   Unfortunately, school districts across the state are facing similar situations as schools and students continue to feel the effects of the state’s inadequate financial commitment to Minnesota’s public schools. Of course  Annandale shouldn’t lose community treasures like marching band and golf; however the current reality of state funding leaves few alternatives. Residents, parents and students should expect continued cuts to quality programs like these unless community members and state officials respond.  Last week, Steve Prinsen encouraged readers to contact school board members about saving these two programs. Save your stamp – my guess is that your school board does not need to be convinced that marching band and golf add significant value to Annandale’s educational system. Rather, I encourage you to respond to Supt. Steve Niklaus’ request for your assistance in contacting legislators and asking them to do their part in providing the quality educational system that Annandale students deserve!
