Kerbaugh’s 37 leads Cardinals

Annandale freshman Devin Kerbaugh led the Cardinal golf team to a 171 finish by shooting a 37, his low round for the year, at a Wright County Conference meet at Delano’s Pioneer Creek on Monday, April 28.  The meet kicked off a busy week in which the Cardinals traveled to Delano, Watertown and Becker.   One meet, scheduled for Friday, May 2, at Hutchinson was rescheduled to Friday, May 16, because of bad weather.   As a team they came away with two eighth-place finishes and one 14th.  Marshall Klitzke had his low round of the year April 28, with a 42.  Four others posted scores in the 30s or 40s, which shows improvement in a tough WCC, coach Myron Damberger said.   "Newcomer Jake Ergen has been a pleasant surprise this year and had solidified a varsity spot by his continuous improvement," he added.   "He had a 46, despite playing on new courses at each and every meet. He should show continued improvement as he gains experience and familiarity with the many courses we play."  Tuesday, April 29, at Timber Creek, Kerbaugh followed up Monday’s 37 with a 38 for co-medalist honors.   Overall, Annandale managed to get five scores in the 40s or lower.   "Although we are showing improvement, to compete we need scores in the lower 40s or better from everyone," Damberger said.  Annandale placed 14th out of 18 teams at a tough Becker Bulldog Invite at Pebble Creek on Wednesday, April 30.  Breezy conditions and a tough course saw the scores go up a bit, Damberger said.   Kerbaugh continued to lead the Cardinals, this time with an 85.  Tyler Ericksen shot a season best 88, and Klitzke shot an 89.  Again, Ergen showed improvement with a score of 90, Damberger said.   On Monday, May 5, the Cardinals hosted their annual Daryl Gunnerson Invitational at Southbrook.  On Tuesday, May 6, they were scheduled to travel to Litchfield for a WCC tournament. Tee off time was set for 4 p.m.   On Thursday, May 8, the Cardinals will play at Albion Ridges in another WCC showdown beginning at 4 p.m.   On Friday, May 9, the Little Crow Invitational will be hosted by New London-Spicer High school.
