The Cardinal boys golf team competed twice last week before getting rained out. They traveled to the Burl Oaks Country Club on Monday, April 21, for the Mound-Westonka Invitational. Eighth-grader Marshall Klitzke led the Annandale team to a 14th-place finish out of 18 teams with his 92. "He had a stretch of one over par for six straight holes on a very tough course," coach Myron Damberger said. The team as a whole had difficulty with the fast greens and numerous water hazards. Together they shot a 384 at the 18-hole meet. The Cardinals shot a 179 on Tuesday, April 22, for a ninth-place Wright County Conference finish. Scoring well was freshman Devin Kerbaugh with a 40. "That was amazing considering he had 18 putts. Approximately half his round was putts," Damberger said. "Generally 13 to 14 putts in a nine-hole round is very good. It just shows how well the rest of his game was going." The two meets left Annandale in eighth place in the nine-team WCC. Annandale was supposed to play at the Glencoe Golf Course on Thursday, April 24, but the meet was canceled due to rain. The Cardinals faced a busy schedule this week with five meets in five days. They were scheduled to travel on Monday, April 28, to Pioneer Creek in Delano for a 4 p.m. tee-off. They were scheduled to compete Tuesday, April 29, at Timber Creek in Watertown, which also begins at 4 p.m. The team will travel to Becker on Wednesday, April 30, for the Bulldog Invite, at noon. They will be at Burl Oaks again on Thursday, May 1, for another WCC competition starting at 4 p.m., and they will compete in the Hutchinson Invite on Friday, May 2. Tee-off time is noon.
