Third-place finish for Cards

The final WCC-West boys golf meet was held Tuesday, May 12, at Burl Oaks Country Club. The event was hosted by Dassel-Cokato High School.

Mound-Westonka took first place with a 163, followed by Annandale, 169, Dassel-Cokato, 169 (tie), Litchfield, 173, New London-Spicer, 177 and Glencoe-Silver Lake, 206.

Austin Janski led the Cardinals in the meet, shooting a 38. He was followed by James Sherwood, 40; Alex Alama, 42; Ben Ericksen, 49; Boyd Rassatt, 50 and Sage Sparks, 52. Meet medalist: Troy Ryynanen, Dassel-Cokato, 36.

Final WCC-West standings for boys golf: 1. Mound-Westonka, 1,587; 2. Dassel-Cokato, 1,613; 3. Annandale, 1,652; 4. Litchfield, 1,678; 5. New London-Spicer, 1,773 and 6. Glencoe-Silver Lake, 2,089.

Three all-conference

Janski, Alama and Sherwood earned All-WCC-West honors for the 2015 season.

Janski finished in an impressive third place, Alama came on strong as the season worn on and ended up fifth and Sherwood finished seventh for the year.

"These three guys have led the team all season with their consistent play," said coach Myron Damberger. "I am so happy for their achievement, which is no small feat considering the strength of the conference.

"More important is the opportunity next year for these three and Annandale in general," Damberger said. "This makes me very happy and excited about next year."

Charger Invitational

The Cardinal boys competed in a two-tournament hosted by Dassel-Cokato High School at the Oakdale Golf Course in Hutchinson on Monday, May 18, and Wednesday, May 20.

Taking first place was Hutchinson with a two-day total of 644, followed by 2. Dassel-Cokato, 647; 3. Delano, 648; 4. Waconia, 656; 5. Annandale, 663; 6. Mound-Westonka, 665; 7. Orono, 666; 8. New Prague, 675; 9. Litchfield, 681; 10. Big Lake, 702; 11. Watertown-Mayer, 717; 12. Rockford, 766; 13. Glencoe-Silver Lake, 807.

On day one of the tournament Annandale shot a 346 and on day two a 317.

Janski led the Cardinals, shooting an 87 and a 73 for a two-day total of 160, good for seventh place. Alama finished in eighth place with an 85 and 76 for a total of 161. Sherwood came in at No. 10 with an 83 and 79 for a total of 162.

"Austin, Alex and James are all top golfers in our area," Damberger said. "I have high hopes for them in the Section 5 tournament Thursday, May 28, in Becker."

Medalist for the meet: Anson Kuznik, Mound-Westonka, 75 and 70, 145 two-day total.
