The high school tennis season came to an end for Annandale Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Sartell, where senior Heidi Stang placed fourth in the Section 5-1A individual tournament.
The tournament started with the first two rounds at Litchfield High School on Thursday, Oct. 12. Each team entered two singles and two doubles into the individual tournament.
First round at Litchfield
Singles: No. 3 seeded Stang won 6-0, 6-0 over Schmitz, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa; No. 8 seeded Groth won 6-3, 6-1 over Miles, St. Johns Prep.
Doubles: No. 8 seeded Roberts-Burd won 6-2, 6-0 over No. 9 Ellis-Zheng, Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa; No. 5 seeded Mikel-Moe won 6-0, 6-3 over Hesse-Petron, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.
Quarterfinals at Litchfield
Singles: No. 3 seeded Stang won 6-2, 6-2 over Hanson, New London-Spicer; No. 8 seeded Groth lost 6-0, 6-1 to No. 1 seeded E. Bierbaum, Litchfield.
Doubles: No. 8 seeded Roberts-Burd lost 6-1, 6-1 to No. 8 seeded Kinny-Stillwell, Litchfield; No. 5 seeded Mikel-Moe lost 6-3, 6-1 to No. 4 seeded Schmeising-Loterbauer, New London-Spicer.
Semifinals
Stang was the only Cardinal to survive the quarterfinals, before losing in the semifinals.
Jennah Groth, and the doubles teams of Abby Mikel-Emily Moe and Josie Burd-Ann Roberts were eliminated in the second round.
Singles semifinal match: No. 3 seeded Stang lost 6-0, 6-1 to Natalie Nelson, Litchfield
Singles third-place match: No. 3 seeded Stang lost 6-4, 6-2 to No. 4 seeded Ecker, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle.
The doubles title went to top-seeded Shanna Kinny and Avery Stilwell of Litchfield.
The singles championship went to No. 1 seeded Elise Bierbaum of Litchfield.
