Annandale came out on top in an alpine ski race with Mound-Westonka at Powder Ridge on Thursday, Jan. 9.
Sophomore Jana Steinkraus produced the fastest combined time for runs on two courses to earn first place for the girls team. Her time was more than 11/2 seconds faster than her closest competitor.
Eighth-grader Jennie Koenigs showed determination as she raced to a fourth-place finish.
Junior Megan Trout earned sixth place with a steady performance.
Junior Matt Malmberg had a technically perfect start and showed a smooth, strong style as he led the boys team with a second-place finish.
Junior Shane Fisher finished third while seventh-grader Troy Lang, a first-year racer, came in fourth.
Junior and first-year racer Jessie Heberling finished fifth.
Junior Adam Hoffman was in contention for first place after an excellent first run, but he blew off course after catching an edge on the steep section during his second run.
The event was scheduled to include the Orono team, but they were a no-show, said Annandale coach Jim Steinkraus.
The team will compete against Brainerd, Buffalo, Mound and Benilde-St. Margaret at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Powder Ridge.
World Cup and Olympic skier Tasha Nelson was scheduled to work with the team at its Tuesday, Jan. 14, practice at the invitation of coach Steinkraus to provide individual instruction and technical advice.
