Senate District 19 voters elected Republican Amy Koch of Buffalo on Tuesday, Nov. 22, to serve the remainder of former Sen. Mark Ourada’s term. Koch defeated DFL candidate John Deitering of Rockford Township with 3,574 votes to 2,169 in the special election, a margin of more than 20 percent, according to unofficial results. Independence Party candidate Del Haag of Buffalo received 1,145 votes. Koch also won in the Annandale-area townships of Albion, Maple Lake, Clearwater and Silver Creek. She will serve about a year left in Ourada’s term until the November 2006 election. Ourada, also a Republican from Buffalo, announced plans to resign in July to take a new job after serving 11 years in the Senate. In a special election in Senate District 43 on Tuesday, DFL candidate Terri Bonoff defeated Republican Judy Johnson with 5,745 votes to 4,802.
