Two arrested after vehicle theft

The Advocate learned shortly before going to press that two individuals were arrested early on Monday morning, Feb. 27, after fleeing from a Wright County sheriff’s deputy in a stolen vehicle.

According to Captain Dan Anselment of the Wright County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Pittman Ave. NW near 90th Street at about 5:20 a.m. The vehicle accelerated and the deputy lost sight of it, but then found it a short time later abandoned in the 15400 block of 80th Street NW.

Through a registration check the deputy learned that the vehicle had been stolen in Stearns County, and a K9 unit was called to the scene.

The K9 unit tracked two suspects to a nearby property where they were found hiding inside a storage garage.

"We did make contact with the property owner because the shed was locked. He said the shed should not be locked," said Anselment. "The K9 unit entered. Deputies found the two people hiding inside, and they were taken into custody without any issues."

Andrew Scott, 25, of Annandale was arrested for possession of stolen property, a warrant for fifth-degree possession of a controlled substance, and trespassing.

Also arrested was Sara Gehrke, 23, of Buffalo, for possession of stolen property and trespassing.
