District to hire community ed director, plans review of rec park

The Annandale District 876 School Board was scheduled to meet Tuesday, May 26, after this edition of the Advocate went to press. Details of this meeting will be in next week’s Advocate.

The school board was expected to discuss or take action on the following topics at the meeting:

■ Review the concept plan for the proposed Annandale Recreation Park with Jared Voge from Bolton Menk Engineers. He is expected to discuss estimated costs.

■ Consider approval of a contract for the position of Community Education Director. Administration recommended Tiffany Grube to fill the position.

■ Consider a policy governing acceptance of foreign exchange students beginning with the 2015-16 school year. Principal Kerbaugh is expected to be present to explain the rationale for the policy.

■ Consider approval of a new policy, Workload Limits for Certain Special Education Teachers. This is the second reading of the proposed policy and administration recommended approval.

■ Consider approval of the 2016 Annandale High School Europe trip.

■ Consider approval of Blue Cross-Blue Shield offered through Resource Training and Solutions as the health insurance carrier for 2016-17.

■ Review with building principals major efforts that were going to be worked on this past year in their respective buildings. Each were expected to summarize the progress made.

■ Review student testing for the 2014-15 school year. Kathy Holahan was expected to give a summary of what a full year of testing requires of a school district, its staff, students and resources.

■ Consider approval of the 2015-16 school lunch prices, which are due to increase by 10 cents. That is the minimum increase mandated by the federal government for schools participating in the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch program.

■ Review the 2016-17 budgets and discuss the implications of Governor Dayton’s veto of the education bill. Administration is asking the board for guidance on whether to take further action to close the projected deficit in Fiscal Year 2016, which will carry over to an even larger deficit in FY17. Review budget adjustment recommendations for next year.

■ Consider a joint meeting with the City of Annandale at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 16, at the city hall.
