Serge P. von Duvillard, age 72, passed away unexpectedly at his home in St. Cloud from natural causes. A Celebration of Life for Serge will be held at a later date. Arrangements are with Benson Funeral Home, St. Cloud, MN. Serge was born March 13, 1949, to Alois and Ludmila (Sternad) Petelin in Maribor, Yugoslavia (Slovenia). Serge immigrated to the United States in 1972 to pursue a college education. He completed BS and MS degrees at Cortland State College, Cortland, NY, and later earned his PhD from North Texas State University, Denton, TX. Serge had a career as a University Professor of Exercise Science at numerous institutions in the U.S. as well as Austria and Norway. He was a prolific scholar with countless publications and several books to his credit. Throughout his life, Serge was heavily involved in Alpine ski racing, first as an elite racer and later as an instructor, coach, official, and founding member of the International Congress on Science and Skiing. He worked with Olympic level athletes, but his true passion was coaching young kids. His legacy will live on in the kids he coached or as he called them “his” kids. Serge was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Sacha.
