Alvina L. Johnson, age 74, of Clearwater, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, surrounded by the love of her family and care of the amazing staff of Quiet Oaks. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, July 7, at Heartland Evangelical Free Church in Annandale with Pastor Denny Johnson and Pastor Chuck Guill officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Greenwood Cemetery in Strathcona, Minnesota. Alvina LaMae Hanson was born Jan. 3, 1949, in Roseau, Minnesota to Alvin and Luella (Scharf) Hanson. She grew up in Strathcona and attended school in Strathcona and Greenbush, graduating in 1967. On Nov. 24, 1979, Alvina was united in marriage to David M. Johnson in the front yard of her childhood home. Together they were blessed with two precious daughters, Tressa and Amanda. Alvina thrived in her role as wife and mom, and truly made their house a loving and welcoming home. She was proud of her Norwegian heritage and would make lefse every deer hunting season, Thanksgiving and Christmas to share with her family and friends. She was well known for hosting in their home, making delicious foods which led to many shared recipes. She led the planning for many family events including camping, family birthday parties at the cabin, graduation parties at the house and many more. One of her favorite events to plan were weddings; Alvina planned her first wedding as a 10-year-old girl, which included baking a three-tiered cake for the event. Alvina could do anything she set her mind to do. Spending time with family brought joy to her heart and could often be heard laughing with her daughters, cousins and friends. She was proud of her family and loved being “Bumma” to her five grandchildren. She always loved visiting/hosting her grandchildren, watching their events, cheering them on and loving on them in ways she knew they needed. Alvina also enjoyed spending time outdoors while deer hunting and camping with family at Rollag and Itasca. Alvina loved God, children and music. She was a daycare director and teacher at Souls Harbor in Minneapolis for several years. At Hope Covenant in St. Cloud, she was a preschool Sunday School teacher, who loved to share Jesus to her class. Alvina also taught Religious Release at Heartland for several years. Alvina loved music and volunteered as a special music coordinator for many years at Heartland, excited to organize the schedule and let musicians use their gifts to be enjoyed by many. She loved singing in many groups throughout her life including: King’s Messengers, Souls Harbor, with her brothers at the Strathcona church, duets with her daughter Amanda, Freedom Singers at Heartland and at Annandale’s Fourth of July, Praise Band at Heartland, duets with her son-in-law Matt, and countless musical moments with cousins, relatives and friends. Music brings joy to hearts and souls and she loved to be part of those moments. She is survived by her dear husband, David Johnson of Clearwater; precious daughters, Tressa (Matt) Elvehjem of Denver, Colorado, and Amanda (Gary) Partridge of Castle Rock, Colorado; grandchildren, Grace, Cora, Olivia Elvehjem, Grady and Anden Partridge; brothers, Jule (Pat) Hanson of Warraod, and Gale (Renae) Hanson of Strathcona; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents. Please consider making a donation in Alvina’s name to the Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta, Minnesota.
