Charles “Chuck” LaMere, age 81, of South Haven, formerly of Brooklyn Center, died Sunday, January 4, 2026, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Memorial Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Charles Douglas LaMere was born on November 9, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Charles Raymond and Stella Mary (Gergits) LaMere. Chuck lost his mother in infancy, and his father later remarried, Verley Martell. Chuck grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis Vocational High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving stateside during the Vietnam War.
Following his service to his country, he embarked on a successful career in the printing industry, beginning at North Central Publishing in St. Paul and eventually retiring from Kwik Sew Pattern Company in Minneapolis. He also served as shop steward and union representative. His commitment to his profession was matched only by his love for his family.
In 2024, Chuck faced the heartbreaking loss of his beloved wife of 54 years, Joanne, a partner he met on a blind date and with whom he shared an inseparable bond for many remarkable years. Together, they created a loving home in Brooklyn Center, where they raised their two children, Jen and Steve.
Life at the lake was a source of happiness for Chuck. He spent countless weekends smoking pulled pork for family gatherings, enjoying serene pontoon rides on Lake Sylvia, and embarking on camping adventures throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin when the kids were younger. Though he had few hobbies, Chuck was rarely idle and was always ready to lend a hand, embodying the spirit of a truly handy man and a devoted family man. He had the ability to find joy in the simplest of moments, whether it was going out for dinner and drinks with family and friends or spending leisurely summer evenings at the lake.
He is survived by his children, Jen (Mark) Stalpes of Eden Prairie, and Steve LaMere of Minneapolis; granddaughters, Madison and Jordan Stalpes; siblings, Ronald (Linda) LaMere and Janice LaMere; brother-in-law, Jerry (Kathy) Westrum; nephew, Jesse Westrum; and other family and friends. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Joanne.
